Jade Chinese School offers traditional and simplified Mandarin classes for middle and high school students, including AP Chinese and HSK exam prep, as well as study abroad prep for China or Taiwan.

We also provide Chinese 1, 2, and 3 classes for those new to Mandarin. Our structured curriculum covers, listening, speaking, reading, writing, and typing.

Chinese 1 Class
The equivalent of Chinese year 1 in high school.

This is a course for Chinese beginners, offered to the students who would like to learn Chinese but have not studied Mandarin Chinese year 1 at middle school or high school. The learning goal is to develop basic listening, speaking, reading, typing and writing abilities in Mandarin Chinese with 150 words commonly used in daily conversation. The advantage with Jade Chinese School is the ability to learn Chinese at a customized pace.

Chinese 2 Class
The equivalent of Chinese year 2 in high school.
​
This is an intermediate level class, offered to the students who have successfully completed Chinese 1 course (in middle school, high school, or Jade Chinese School). The learning goal is to help students create their dialogues with intermediate level grammatical patterns and to enhance proficiency in oral and written skills. The advantage with Jade Chinese School is the ability to learn at a customized pace.

Chinese 3 Class
The equivalent of Chinese year 3 in high school.

This is an in-depth continuation of the Chinese 2 class. The learning goal is to enable students to write essays, speak fluent Mandarin Chinese and have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. With Jade Chinese School, you can progress at your pace using a customized pace.

Conversational Chinese Classes
This is a continuation of Chinese Level 1, 2, and 3 developed to help with real life conversations. We teach the vocabulary and expressions of a specific topic (e.g. travel, business, cafe, etc.) and provide a space for students to speak casually with one another in the presence of a teacher, who corrects mistakes and offers conversational tips. This is the best way to learn Chinese!

This in-person Chinese tutoring program helps middle school and high school students catch-up to their classmates and overtime surpass them, improve their grades, and enjoy learning Chinese. Online Chinese tutoring is also offered.

Chinese Tone Improvement Class
Special tutoring for Mandarin tone improvement.
​
As a tonal language, Mandarin Chinese is often difficult for non-native Chinese speakers to discern and reproduce. We have developed an approach that helps effectively distinguish the 4 Chinese tones and pronounce these sounds.

AP Chinese Exam & IB Chinese Exam Preparation
This course is designed to help students pass the AP Chinese exam and the IB Chinese exam while developing proficiencies in interpretation, interpersonal conversation, and presentations. In addition, students increase their knowledge of Chinese culture, connection to cross-curricular objectives and comparisons of culture and language use within broader communities beyond the traditional school environment.

HSK Exam Preparation
This HSK* class is designed to help students who wish to study in China pass the required exam.
​
*The HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) test is China's only official test of Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers. The HSK test was developed in 1984 and the first HSK test was held overseas in 1991.

In-Person or Online
We offer in-person Chinese classes and online Chinese classes. Our Chinese tutors will help ensure progress at your own pace and lessons can NOT be rescheduled 48 hours’ notice before your lessons start — see our policy page for more details. Our Chinese tutors can meet our students at their home, a place near their school, or at the Jade Chinese school center.

Enrichment Options

In addition, we enrich our student’s Chinese learning experience with optional activities involving Chinese culture, which include Chinese videos, Chinese performances, field trips, and Chinese traditional holiday celebrations, supplement materials, and/or immersion trips to Chinese-speaking countries like China or Taiwan.
